Chinese AI Infrastructure: Really good analysis of the AI infrastructure in China. It is easy to see news all about USA infra (and a little bit in EU) but this one shows the reach and capacity in China. Same struggles about space and energy and how different regions are winning specific battles.

EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools landscape: I remembered this article after reading the Chip Wars. It is an example of small/critical bottleneck. Three companies (Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA) dominate the market. Enough competition to push progress (I want to believe) and enough margin to make profit. I was surprised that some companies pay around 150k per user to use these products. And all the companies in HW have to use them. Nobody is free.

33: Choose Something in Life Worth Struggling For. Everything in life is hard, one way or the other.

Maia 300: In the rack pictures, you can see Arista switches… I can’t recognize the model but doesnt have any fiber connected. Still interesting

QFX5252: Nice to see the inside of a switch. Tomahawk6 (no custom silicon), Liquid cooled. I was surprised of so much copper… and as the article mentions, you need CPO

AWS Networks Lab: Very nice report, from the hollow fiber, different switches, but nothing about firewalls and loadbalancers…

APT autoupdate: Because the php security issue, I had to update the php package and when I checked it was already updated. I thought it was a friend but turns out that I had apt autoupdate… and i didnt know, I think it is by default in the image provided by cloud provider? because I am pretty sure I didnt set that up.

400G FEC: This at work a colleague ask me about advice about constant increment of corrected FEC errors (without traffic in the llnk…) And checking online, found that NANOG thread that was spot on in our situation. I learnt something today!

Subsea cables down. Nice site reporting issues with subsea cables. Very handy!
