I never had the name of the cake, but after that holidays I did dome research and I think I found the name, portokalopita. I&#8217;ve got a receipe, but then I did nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So finally, I tried. The taste is similar but the execution is not great. Mine is too runny. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ingredients<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Syrup<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 1\/2 cup orange juice (just squeeze it from oranges&#8230;. I didnt do it)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 cup water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 1\/2 cup sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cinnamon stick<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cake<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>180g phyllo sheets (I think I need double)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 eggs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\/2 cup sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cup olive oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>200g yogurt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tsp baking powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>orange zest from 2 medium oragnes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instructions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preheat oven at 120C. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the phillo sheets on a tray. Cut them in slices so it easy to fit. Get them in the oven, until hard and crunchy. Turn them over when needed. Remove from oven and let is cool down<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make the syrup. In a small sauce pan mix the orange juice, water, sugar and cinnamon. Bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 7 minutes. Set aside to cool<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set oven at 180C<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In a large bowl add the eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla. Beat until frothy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In a smaller bowl, mix the yogurt and baking powderand set aside for 2-3 minutes. Add the yogurt to the egg mix<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the orange zest and crumbled phyllo into the egg mix gradually.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grease an oven dish, and pour the cake mix. Even it out<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is dark golden.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove from oven and make a few slashes with a knife and immediately drizzle the syrup slowly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let the cake sit for 2-3 hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep in the fridge for 1h before serving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"670\" height=\"496\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.thomarite.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2190\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.3508442776735459;width:473px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.thomarite.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-4.png 670w, https:\/\/blog.thomarite.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-4-300x222.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think the syrup is too much and I my cake mix needed more phyllo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will try <a href=\"https:\/\/realgreekrecipes.com\/portokalopita\/\">this<\/a> next time<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a cake I wanted to try after I visited Greece with my friends.
